My workplace is a petri dish of personalities. There are at least two people that I don't get along with most of the time and today I will blog about one of them.
Let's call her Voonie. She is sometimes 38, sometimes 39. No one but her employer knows for sure. She is not in the same 'department' as me but we do work in the same space. Voonie is a typical Chilli Padi, very petite. She is married to a truckie who delivers chicken. One thing stands out with Voonie (other than her B.O.). Her spoken language is very poor and this makes it difficult for people to understand her. She seems to eat her own words.
Back in May, Voonie and another co worker started to criticize me behind my back. Apparently they had to do a lot more than me and it wasn't fair that I had it so easy. I got very angry and didn't speak to neither of them for nearly a month. Towards the end of June, I felt that I should just forgive and move on. I took small steps and it worked. All was good again.
Voonie is always scratching. She has some kind of skin problem. She has been to the doctors but no one could cure it. There is also another form of itch. It is her need to annoy. On Thursday after lunch when I was busy washing cups, Voonie couldn't resist annoying me any longer. She looked around to see if anyone was watching before testing for my reaction. She began by lecturing me on the need to get married. I tried to not be offended and asked, "What if I can't find a special someone?" Then she looked around again before calling me a spinster. For some unknown reason, I laughed. That must have gotten her going. She stepped on the accelerators and began calling me a spinster over and over. Seeing that I wasn't reacting much other than watching her with a puzzled look on my face, she began to describe that my life will be lonely forever. Still I didn't barge. By now, someone else was watching her but she was not going to back down. She just repeated the words: "Spinster" and "Lonely Forever" over and over like a primary school kid. She seemed to enjoy all that. Voonie is having trouble conceiving but if she is worried that life being unmarried is lonely, what would she do if her truckie leaves her for another baby factory?
Voonie doesn't know much about my recent past. She doesn't know that I was in a 16 year long relationship that lasted till less than a year ago. She probably thought that I purposely chose to be single because life is good at home. Characters like Voonie rank as one of the most stressful aspects of my job.
